Tony Ball

Chief Claims Officer at Indigo

About the author

Tony is a seasoned Claims Leader and Subject Matter Expert with over 20 years experience in both the US and international markets across the spectrum of financial lines insurance policies with particular emphases in medical and non-medical professional liability insurance.

At Indigo, Tony has partnered with our team of executives and AI experts to build a bleeding edge tech platform to disrupt the Medical Malpractice Insurance/Medical Professional Liability Insurance space to offer more competitive pricing and substantially improve the buying experience.

Before joining Indigo as Chief Claims Officer in June 2023, Tony spent 20 years with MedPro Group, as VP of Claims leading several national claims teams across the US. He also spent 5 years building out MedPro's International claim team in London to manage healthcare professional liability claims in the UK, Europe, and Asia in the primary, excess, and reinsurance markets. Tony also established the TPA relationships necessary to support a growing business in Europe & Asia that included developing claim handling protocols, a rigorous audit process, as well as guidance and decision making on the largest claims to ensure claim adjudication and risk analysis standards were consistently maintained to the highest possible standards.

During his tenure at MedPro, as the "go-to" medical malpractice insurance SME, Tony was also called upon to provide oversight to all litigation against MedPro entities arising from complex coverage disputes, excess verdicts, and bad faith claims. He was also the Claims Lead for the review, due diligence, and run-off execution of several Loss Portfolio Transfers (LPTs) underwritten in the US and London markets, not only in the healthcare professional liability lines, but also healthcare entity EPL, D&O, and insurer E&O. He also built out a Lawyers Professional Liability claim team to support MedPro's growing AttPro business.

Tony authors Indigo's "malpractice minute" blogs, informative articles that seek to identify potential lessons learned for physicians from newsworthy medical malpractice jury trials for which there have been significant adverse outcomes. He also explores topics in healthcare news that are either the subject of significant litigation or have that potential. Further, Tony looks at how best practices in the physician/patient relationship can minimize associated risks for physicians and allow them not only to defend their care and decision making but also win their cases, should they be drawn into lawsuits.

Tony has dedicated extensive volunteer work for many years helping to assist and relocate Congolese, Tanzanian & Ethiopian refugee families from refugee camps in the mission field in Africa to establishing a life for themselves in the United States.

Tony earned his BTEC Business & Finance degree from Reading College in the UK.
